
Temporary Road & Parking Lot Closure – Starting July 7
Starting Monday, July 7, Commonwealth Avenue (north of CTC) will be closed for construction for approximately four weeks. This closure will impact access and parking at CTC:
What’s Affected:
- CTC’s North Parking Lot will be inaccessible—there will be no way to enter or exit.
- North entrance of Fifield Avenue will also be closed.
- See the map below for affected areas.
Resident Impact:
- Do not park in the North Lot—vehicles remaining there may be towed at the owner's expense if the entrance closes early on Monday morning.
- No events will take place in the North Lot during construction.
Event Location Change:
- Ready-to-Heat Meal Distribution and the Foodmobile will be relocated to the South Lot.
- Please avoid parking in the South Lot on Thursdays from 12:00–2:00 PM to allow space for these events.
Alternate Entry Routes to CTC:
With the Fifield (North) entrance closed, please use:
- Cleveland Avenue → Knapp Street or Ray Place, or
- Como Avenue → Gibbs Avenue, Raleigh Street, South Lot, or Fifield Avenue (South access)
From UMN Parking & Transportation Services (06/24/25):
Commonwealth Avenue and sidewalks on both sides will be closed in St. Paul beginning Monday, July 7 for a complete reconstruction between Cleveland Avenue N and Gortner Avenue. The closure is expected to last through Monday, August 4.
- Carter Avenue should use Eckles, Buford, and Gortner Avenues to detour around the closure.
- Eckles Avenue will be closed south of the Food Science and Nutrition building. Use Buford and Gortner Avenues to detour around the closure.
- Fifield Street should use Knapp Avenue, Cleveland Avenue N, and Buford Avenue to detour around the closure.
Lot 101
Lot 101 will be closed during construction. Contract holders–use your U Card to park in Gortner Avenue Ramp at no additional cost. Scan your U Card at entry and exit. If you experience issues, pull a ticket at entry and push the help (“i” icon) when exiting.
Lot 149 and Boyd Avenue (Veterinary Medical Center Area)
If you need to access Lot 149 or Boyd Avenue, use the east entrance from Gortner Avenue. Boyd Avenue will not be accessible from Commonwealth Avenue during construction. Lot 150, St. Paul Heading Plant, and Facilities Management Building The west entrance/exit to the area will be closed for construction. All traffic will need to use the east side entrance/exit.
Lot 152
Lot 152 contract holders may use your hangtag to park in Lot 153 or use your U Card to park in Gortner Avenue Ramp at no additional cost. Scan your U Card at entry and exit. If you experience issues, pull a ticket at entry and push the help (“i” icon) when exiting.
Transit Impacts
- The Campus Connector (121) will run its school year route (non-summer).
The St. Paul Circulator (124) will detour to Carter Avenue from Cleveland Avenue before continuing its regular route.
