Exchange plants, cuttings, and other garden items with your neighbors on Sunday, June 5, from 11 am - 1 pm at the CTC Garages! Please complete RSVP form prior to event to help with event preparation.

Plant Swap at CTC!

A plant swap is simply an event where fellow plant owners can come together to trade their plants or cuttings and knowledge. By trading cuttings or divisions from your successful houseplants, you can share with others and get new plants in return – fun, easy, and inexpensive!

Event Overview
Bring any healthy and pest-free house plants, cuttings or plant-related items which you want to swap (or give away for free). For admission all you have to bring is one of something, yet ideally bring the same level of plant or accessory you want to swap. Mingle to arrange for trades, exchange information, and meet other plant lovers. Option to plant cuttings at the event, while containers/pots and soil last (or bring your own!)

What to Swap:

Bring any healthy and pest-free house plants, cuttings or plant-related items which you want to swap (or give away for free).
- Plants can be potted or bare root — as long as you’re prepared to part with them.
- Cuttings (also known as “starts” or clippings) and baby plants (“pups”), rooted or planted, are also good
- You can also trade planters/pots, seeds, garden tools – anything plant-related you may want to trade

What to Bring:

Bring the same level of plant or accessory you want to swap (see section above).
- For cuttings or bare root plants, wrap them in a moist paper towel and bring them to the swap.

Bring tools/shovels if you might want to use or trade
Bring a box/container to transport your plants/clippings, as well as to organize during the trade
There will also be a donation basket to contribute to CCCC's future seed library, if you wish to contribute any extra seeds you may have.

Remember that everyone is in a different place in their plant journey so be prepared to chat, trade & learn. Learning is half the fun (ok, collecting is half the fun). Please, no plants for sale, just trades.

How Does a Plant Swap Work?

Communicate with friends and neighbors about swapping.
Determine which of your plants others want or what is easy to propagate (make a cutting)
Tell friends and neighbors what you’re interested in swapping for.
Take cuttings of your plants and wrap them in a moist paper towel for the swap.
Meet up at the swap to begin trading.

Neighborhood Communication: Which Plants to Swap

For #1-3 above, you can communicate with neighbors attending the event in two ways:

Section two of the RSVP form helps you determine which of your plants others want and/or tell neighbors what you’re interested in swapping for. This can be a rough/general idea, and you can edit your responses after submitting the form if needed or wanted. After you fill out this form, you will get a link to the results. Response summaries show full text responses or charts for each question and are visible to anyone who can respond to the form.

Starting Plant Cuttings – How To Root Cuttings From Plants

Before participating in a swap, make sure you know how to take cuttings properly. First, do some research to determine the best type of cutting to make for your specific plants. Most require a simple stem cutting, but some plants propagate by leaf or stem section.

For most plants, a cutting should be four to six inches (10 to 15 cm.) long. Use a sharp knife or shears to make a clean cut just below a node, where leaves attach to the stem. Remove lower leaves, keeping two or three at the top of the stem. Wrap the bottom of the cutting in wet paper towel for transport to its new owner.
