Air Conditioner Install and Registration (2021)

All air conditioner units must be registered with the CTC Office upon installation. Review registration and installation process below.

Residents must register all air conditioner units with CTC's Office upon installation (cannot install prior to May 1), then remove and deregister by October 15. Follow the registration/installation and cancellation/removal procedures below.

Registration

Air conditioner units (ACs) are only permitted for resident use and installation between May 1, 2021 - October 15, 2021, and all ACs must be registered with CTC's Office when placed in window and/or using. CTC does not provide air conditioners; air conditioners are purchased, owned, and maintained by the respective resident. Residents need to complete the AC registration the same day as install and submit to the office. Lack of registration can result in an unregistered appliance fee. Notify the office when you remove your air conditioning unit/s after the season is over*.

*All air conditioner units must be removed from windows AND deregistered with the office by Friday, October 15, 2021.

Use the Add Charges form to register your AC: Download, fill in your information, save, then email to CTC's front desk.

Maintenance Support

Maintenance can install your air conditioner for a $40 fee. Please make a maintenance request to receive this service. Maintenance can also remove the AC when you cancel/remove it if you place another maintenance request and once again agree to the $40 service fee.

Heat On = AC Off

All air conditioner units must be removed from windows AND canceled with the office by Friday, October 15, 2021.

We ask that residents wait until CTC's community-wide heat is turned off before installing and using air conditioners. The heating system will start on October 1, 2021, and we expect to turn it off in mid-May (weather dependent). If a resident chooses to put in an AC prior to heat being turned on, they will be charged from the install date. Official email notices will be sent when heat is turned on and off.

Cancel AC Use + Charges

Wish to terminate your air conditioner for the season? Email ctc@umnctc.org stating your address and the date you stopped using and removed the AC to deregister and discontinue the respective charges. The monthly charge will be prorated to the day of cancellation, which you can view the balance due via your RentCafe account.

Please note that if you cancel your AC and then re-register it in the same season, there will be a re-installment fee of $20.

Discontinue by Oct. 15, 2021 (Mandatory)

Residents must remove all ACs from windows AND deregister with the office by Friday, October 15, 2021, in correspondence with the community-wide heat turning on for the colder months (October-May, typically). Charges will continue until you notify the office of removal and you will receive a $45 open window fee if exceeded past Oct. 15. To cancel your AC, email CTC's office stating your address and the date you stopped using/removed the AC.

Maintenance Support

CTC's Maintenance Team can remove your air conditioner for a $40 fee. Please make a maintenance request to receive this service, then CTC's office will cancel the respective AC charge, prorated to the day maintenance removed the AC.

Re-Installment Fee

We encourage households to register their air conditioner/s just once for the entire season. There is a re-installment fee of $20 if you deregister/cancel then re-register a household AC in the same season. This fee covers the administrative services needed for additional processing requests, which can become substantial as the weather fluctuates and lack predictability.
